Metal Roof Cost

Last updated October 14, 2026 · Method · Corrections
Enter measured dimensions to calculate roofing quantities.
Name the metal and system before pricing. Corrugated panels and standing seams have different joints and work scopes. Shingle-like metal units are another assembly. Use net roof surface for installed rates, without added purchase allowance. Keep removal, deck repairs and unspecified details unknown unless the written package shows them. A broad metal label does not supply a complete replacement price or prove system suitability.

Metal roof cost depends on the actual material, profile and supply and labor scope. Western States Metal Roofing's guide is dated January 11, 2026. It gives $7 to $12 per square foot installed for corrugated steel. Its standing-seam steel band is $10 to $16. These are distinct maker planning ranges, not a shared rate for aluminum, metal shingles or stone-coated steel.
Metal roof cost: separate the material and profile
Western States Metal Roofing's cost guide names steel as its general metal context unless another material is stated. It gives distinct installed profile ranges. The maker sells panels and states that it does not install them. Its numbers are planning references with a commercial interest.
Aluminum, copper and zinc are distinct materials. Steel profiles can also be painted or stone-coated. Do not apply one rate to all of them. The roofing materials guide keeps those categories as budget inputs instead of product rankings.
The exact panel or unit should appear in the quote. A standing-seam label alone does not show seam type, net width or attachment. A tile-like metal profile should not be priced as concrete tile. Material identity and system scope both need to match the source.
Metal roof cost: dated installed reference table

|---|---|---|
| Corrugated steel | $7 to $12 | Western States, January 11, 2026 |
| Standing-seam steel | $10 to $16 | Western States, January 11, 2026 |
| Steel modular shingles | $6 to $13 | HomeGuide, April 5, 2023; separate unit assembly |
| Aluminum | $4 to $11 general; $6.70 to $16 modular shingles | Angi, July 20, 2026; HomeGuide, April 5, 2023; do not inherit the steel rate |

The cited maker guide was checked October 14, 2026. It warns that steel prices move. No inflation or regional factor is added by the calculator. Current written project ranges can be entered with their own source and scope.
The 2025 JLC national report supplies a stated metal replacement project's national total. It is not a unit-price range. The estimator does not divide it by an assumed surface to create a new rate or mix it into the maker band.
Installed package versus panels alone
A panel supply price can be per linear foot or square foot on a stated panel basis. It can omit trim, base layer and labor. The guide rate includes its stated materials and installation. Do not compare those two headline figures as though they cover the same installation.
Ask whether the quote prices net covered area, gross panel area or whole runs. The metal roof material calculator counts supported rectangular runs from exact net width. It does not create a complete hip or valley order.
Do not add a purchase-waste allowance to a rate based on installed roof surface. Panel orders can include extra material for cuts and whole-width rounding, but that does not increase the measured roof area. Keep the installed-cost budget separate from the material takeoff.
Area and scope scenarios
Use a measured surface or a matching footprint with known pitch. Indoor floor space is not roof area. The roofing calculator keeps pitch from being counted twice. Separate material zones before multiplying rates.
For an assumed 1000-square-foot surface, the cited corrugated source gives a derived $7,000 to $12,000 supply and labor subtotal. The standing-seam source gives $10,000 to $16,000 on the same assumed surface. Those examples do not include unconfirmed removal, deck or detail costs and are not real bids.
If two project quotes include other extra products or removal work, their total gap cannot be attributed only to the seam. Match exact scope first. The replacement estimator keeps unpriced work beside the known subtotal so the price comparison does not hide those gaps.
Slope and system fit
Each exact system has its own slope and assembly needs. Read minimum pitch for metal roof for the source-based split. A cost band cannot approve a panel below its stated range or select a seam from a roof photograph.
End laps, hips and valleys need exact detail and layout. A simple rectangular panel count does not settle them. The maker records should state the product and work basis. Do not assign a standard cut or low-pitch percent to solve an unspecified system.
Deck, removal and other exclusions
Removal depends on the old covering and layers. The guide bands do not show shared tear-off or disposal inclusion. Read the written package and add a distinct amount only when it is explicitly excluded. Roof tear off cost keeps that work distinct.
Deck repairs need a checked count or a conditional rule. They differ from framing alterations. Roof decking replacement cost keeps that basis. The estimator applies no default damage or access surcharge from a condition label.
Flashing, edge trim and ventilation should also be stated. A new metal covering does not by default renew every wall or opening detail. Keep each needed line included, distinct or unknown. The broad supply and labor range cannot show a complete project scope by itself.
Compare metal alternatives
Use corrugated metal roof cost for exposed-fastener panel scope and standing seam cost for the exact seam price comparison. Metal shingle cost is a distinct modular-covering task.
For a material alternative, read roofing cost metal versus shingle or metal versus tile cost. Compare the same measured sections and removal basis. The metal label gives no fixed service term. This budget adds no energy saving or resale credit.
Source records and dated quotes
Keep the published date, checked date and exact scope with the rate. The maker guide's January price basis is not a guarantee of the same rate in October. A current project quote may be more exact; it should replace the broad source with its own record, not be averaged into it with no reason.
The method page keeps cost-record fields and update rules. Use Contact and Corrections for a conflicting current source or math error. This site has no field-test claim or contractor identity attached to the cost references.
Frequently asked questions
What is the average metal roof cost?
A single metal average can mix materials and assemblies. This page keeps corrugated steel and standing-seam steel in distinct dated maker ranges. Aluminum, modular shingles and stone-coated profiles need their own basis. Use measured surface and complete scope before treating any source subtotal as the actual price for a replacement project.
How does metal roof pricing change with size?
A matching area rate multiplies the measured roof surface. Fixed extras use distinct amounts. That math does not show a shared project-price scale or include every detail. Keep panel buying and net surface distinct, with exact quote scope controlling whether removal, deck work and unusual junctions are within the package.
Does the installed range include old-roof removal?
Universal removal and disposal inclusion is not shown here. The cited maker band names materials and installation. The written project package must state the old-covering scope. Add a distinct removal amount only when excluded from every base line, and leave unknown layers or fees visible instead of assuming a standard surcharge.
Can I use the steel range for aluminum?
No. The actual material and assembly must match the source. Aluminum can have different panel, finish and project scope. A broad metal label is not enough. Use the aluminum-exact guide or a dated matching quote, with the estimator retaining unknown rates instead of converting steel by an invented material multiplier.
Verdict: price the named metal system
Use metal roof cost with distinct material and profile record. Return to types of roofing materials for alternatives and the replacement estimator with its measured area, date and exact exclusions.
