Class 4 Shingles Cost

Last updated October 14, 2026 · Method · Corrections
Enter measured dimensions to calculate roofing quantities.
Check the qualifying package and product record before comparing cost. Use the same measured roof area for both options. Match removal and the full assembly scope too. Impact class, wind rating and warranty are distinct records. A Class 4 label does not guarantee hail performance or an insurance saving. Keep those claims outside the cost subtotal unless the actual source shows them, and leave missing work unknown.

- Verdict: use the exact rated-product quote
To estimate Class 4 shingles cost, get a quote naming the exact impact-rated product and the materials and labor included. Class 4 is an impact-test classification, not a price category with a standard premium. Use a dated supply and labor range for the selected product rather than adding a guessed percentage to a generic asphalt rate.
Class 4 shingles cost: product-specific price basis
GAF's Timberline AS II page describes its Class 4 impact-test product and says cost varies with project factors. It does not publish a shared supply and labor unit rate. The exact local package should supply the price and scope.
The maker's page is a source for that product, not a hands-on review or buying guidance. A generic product-family name can change over time, so keep the current package label and relevant record. The final delivered spec sheet should match the quoted one.
Class 4 shingles cost: compare equal roof scope
Use the same net roof surface for both alternatives. Mark removal, disposal and deck work consistently. Match base layer, flashing and ventilation scope. If one quote includes more work, its total gap cannot be called the Class 4 premium alone.
The replacement estimator accepts a visitor-entered supply and labor range with source, date and included work. It does not add a class multiplier. A broad architectural-asphalt guide gives context. It does not price the exact impact-rated product in your quote.

Impact classification and warranty limits
GAF's impact-resistant guidance says qualifying package statements show the Class 3 or Class 4 rating. It also separates controlled tests from a hail-result warranty. Do not turn the higher class into a no-damage claim.
Wind and fire test classes address other tests. Keep them separately assigned when needed. A single class badge should not stand in for the whole roof's durability or assembly approval. Class 3 versus Class 4 shingles explains how to check that record.
The exact warranty should name what damage or defects are covered and under which conditions. The headline duration does not show the installed roof's remaining service term. Product and workmanship terms also differ. Their limits should remain distinct from the initial price.
Material-only versus installation packages
A material bundle price covers the exact package on its stated basis. It can leave starter, cap and other products outside. An installed quote can include those extra products and their labor. Compare the actual package contents instead of a retail bundle figure with a complete roof total.
Use exact installed coverage for the shingle calculator. The impact class does not show bundles per square. Gross piece sizes also do not supply laid area. A replaced product needs both its coverage and price basis checked again.
Do not add a distinct labor source to a quoted materials-and-installation package. Use itemized mode only when the material, labor and removal lines cover distinct tasks. Unknown work lines can remain unknown without forcing a generic class-upgrade amount into the total.
Removal and deck condition
The old roof's material and layers determine the removal scope. A Class 4 new covering does not show how many old layers exist. Keep that record and the disposal treatment beside the quote. Roof tear off cost supplies the unit and inclusion checks.
Deck repair is possible where its full state is not yet visible. GAF's decking guide explains that limit. Deck replacement cost keeps the checked count distinct from whole-roof area.
Neither condition should become a fixed Class 4 surcharge. A covering choice does not reveal damaged sheets or price structural work. Keep those tasks on their own lines with actual counts and matching written rates when known.
Underlayment and complete system scope
The selected product's current assembly instructions should govern the layers and extra products. A higher impact class does not excuse missing substrate or junction details. Ask the quote to name the exact system and any applicable low-slope conditions.
Use the roof pitch calculator for measured slope unit conversion. The result does not approve shingles for the plane. The minimum shingle pitch guide ties that check to maker records, without a shared added-layer rule.
Relevant flashing, starter and cap treatment should be in the package or explicitly distinct. Those details can make two quoted systems different even when both products have Class 4 labels. Price the actual assembly instead of assuming the test number defines the whole job.
Insurance and future-cost assumptions
GAF notes that discounts are not guaranteed and policy conditions can vary. This site supplies no insurer percent, policy interpretation or annual saving rate. Keep the actual written insurer response distinct from the supply and labor scope. A class label alone cannot show financial benefit.
Future storm damage or replacement timing is also not predicted. Do not turn a test result into a payback calculation or a guaranteed lifetime saving. The budget worksheet prices known work now. Any future model would need its own record, which this cost guide does not invent.
Compare a quoted upgrade
If two quotes differ only in the exact shingle and all other scope is known equal, their stated totals can show the actual quoted gap. Keep the source dates and product names with that subtraction. It describes those quotes, not a national premium for every Class 4 roof.
If other work differs, list it before comparing. A longer workmanship package, new flashing or included deck allowance can account for part of the gap. Do not allocate an unsupported share to each part. Preserve the complete scope and leave unknown gaps visible.
Use asphalt shingle roof cost for broad material-family context. The roofing materials guide helps compare system families. Neither replaces the exact rated-product package needed here.
Sources and evidence limits
GAF's product, impact and deck sources were checked October 14, 2026. The price comparison is based on published specifications and written-price scope, with no hands-on testing. The method page keeps observed sources, assumed inputs and derived totals distinct.
Frequently asked questions
How much do impact-resistant shingles cost?
Use an exact product and complete installed quote. Impact-resistant covers several products and test classes, so one generic premium is not shown here. Match measured area, removal and assembly before comparing totals. The estimator accepts the dated matching range without converting a general asphalt rate into a Class 4 price.
Are all Class 4 shingles the same price?
No single price is shown by the test class. Products can differ in coverage, appearance, system rules and quoted work. Keep exact labels and complete scopes side by side. A common test class does not make two packages the same or justify treating a retail bundle price as a whole-roof replacement figure.
Does Class 4 mean hail damage is covered?
Read the exact warranty separately. GAF separates its controlled impact test classes from a hail-result warranty. The label is not a no-damage promise or policy term. Keep test record, material warranty and workmanship terms as distinct records instead of making the cost check rely on an inferred guarantee.
Can I use the same bundle count as ordinary shingles?
Check the exact rated product's installed coverage. The impact class does not determine package area. Use its current label or instructions, with an explicit ordering allowance, in the shingle calculator. A similar brand or appearance does not prove that the field, starter or cap counts match another shingle line.
Verdict: use the exact rated-product quote
Keep Class 4 shingles cost tied to product record and equal supply and labor scope. Return to types of roofing materials for context and the replacement estimator with the dated matching range, with no guessed premium or saving.
